Immune Boosting Digestive Tea

Yes this flu is going around so it's important to be proactive about your health. Here's an immune boosting tea that I slightly modified from Amadea Morningstar, my FAVORITE Ayurvedic cookbook author. Not only is it great for your immune system, it's also a digestive tea. Remember a healthy gut is one of the most important immune system boosters.

Don't just have a cup of this per day. Make 1 quart daily, place it in a thermos and sip on it all day long. You can buy bulk herbs online or check out your local Indian store and grab some bulk spices so you can make this tea while this flu bug is circulating. (For those Angelenos in the northeast LA area who want o support a brick and mortar store, my new favorite place to go is Namaste Spiceland in Pasadena. It's a wonderful Indian market and affordable vegetarian restaurant.)

IMMUNE BOOSTING TEA Time: 15 minutes Makes: 4 cups

4 1/2 cups water

1 teaspoon each:

  • whole cumin seeds

  • whole coriander seeds

  • whole fennel seeds

  • fenugreek seeds

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or cardamom

2 thin slices of ginger, chopped

Bring the water to a boil in a stainless steel pot. Add all the spices. Simmer ten minutes or more. Strain. Drink 4 cups per day.
